At the beginning of December we tried to go to an open air market we had seen advertised, that would have food trucks and tables from local merchants selling all kinds of goods. Two subway rides, a walk, and a 40 minutes later we arrived, only to find it had been cancelled. So instead of shopping we walked through Poble Nou towards the beach, taking note of the variety of ways Barcelonians spend their Sunday afternoons in public parks. Old men gathered in small groups playing Bocci ball. Families and couples rollerbladed and biked. People exercised using public equipment sprinkled throughout the city. A skate boarding park that was jumping with people on scooters, skateboards and bikes. The playground on the beach itself is where we ended up, partaking in real life shoots and ladders. After watching all that exercise, we needed sustenance, so we got ourself a table at Escribá, a restaurant on the beach, where we had paella and a consistent favorite of the boys', fried calmari. |
